My Day 6 – Setting Up My Blog With WordPress Direct

Did I miss something during the Challenge? I don’t remember the secondary keyword phrase part. Basically, what I need to do now is find some secondary keywords to use as categories in my blog. This shouldn’t be too difficult to do. I’ll just fire up Market Samurai and generate keywords using my keyword phrase “Dog Adoptions”. Then we’ll get on with WordpPress Direct.

Secondary Keyword Phrases

Here are my secondary keyword phrases to use as categories in my blog:

Keyword Phrase SEOT SEOC Total Searches
Adopt A Puppy 891 374 85,900
Dog Shelters 1332 559 84,600
Adopt Dogs 730 306 48,800
Rescue A Dog 178 74 32,300
Small Dog Rescue 398 167 30,300
Dog Rescue Adoption 79 33 25,700
Free Dog Adoption 53 22 14,600
Puppy Adoptions 217 91 13,600
Dog Humane Society 145 60 10,400
Lost Dog Rescue 62 26 9,610
Small Dog Adoption 95 39 6,360
Pet Dog Adoption 33 13 5,850
Dog Volunteer 79 33 5,630
Senior Dog Rescue 29 12 3,590
Dog Centers 217 91 1,410
Dog Adoption Shelters 62 26 661
Rescue Dog Shelter 43 18 602
Dog Pound Adoption 24 10 384

After looking over this list “Small Dog Adoption” may have been the best option, but for now I’m going to stick the course with “Dog Adoptions”.

I’m going to use the 4 secondary keyword phrases I highlighted in red for my categories on my WordPress Direct Blog.

Domain Name

I already have a Blue Host account and it will only cost me another $10 to add a domain to my account. Now the question is: What domain name should I purchase? My keyword phrase is “Dog Adoptions“.

  • DogAdoptions.com, .org, .net – are all taken
  • DogAdoption.com, .org, .net – are all taken
  • DogAdoptionsBlog.com – is available – this would be inline with what Ed, Dan, and Guru Bob did with VintageElectricGuitarBlog.com
  • DogAdoptionsRescue.com – I think I like this one the best because it has a secondary keyword, it’s not too long at 18 characters, and the site doesn’t have the word blog in it (just in case I want to use the domain name for some other purpose.

DogAdoptionRescue.com seems like a better domain, but it doesn’t have my full keyword (mine contained the plural — Adoptions).

I purchased DogAdoptionsRescue.com and the next step was to setup my WordPress Direct account.

I went through and setup and installed my first WordPress Direct blog for DogAdoptionsRescue.com

It’s an empty blog and was very easy step-by-step to install.  A couple pointers to remember:

  • When you fill out the keywords/categories section with your secondary phrases don’t forget to include your keyword phrase (in my case: “Dog Adoptions”) as the first keyword/category.
  • I did not upgrade my account and right now I’m just sticking with the free account.  As you will see you do not get the full benefit of WordPress Direct.  The one point being when you check mark the AutoIncomeMaker software setup the “Shopping” check boxes are not available.

Adding My Content

Adding new content was very easy for me.  I’ve used WordPress in the past and had no problem with this step.  I just took my pre-written content and created a post.

Adding content is easy and straight forward the gotchas are in creating your promo offer.

Creating The Promotional Offer

Gotcha Number 1 – I couldn’t figure out where Guru Bob was finding the browse for image button.  You have to click the radio button “upload banner” to get the “browse” button to appear.

The importing an image feature was very confusing.  What I did was browse for my image with the “Upload Banner” feature.  Then I used the following URL that WordPress usually defaults images: my default location I believe would be: http://dogadoptionsrescue.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/sitstayfetch.jpg.

Strike that from the record.  Here’s how you do it.

  1. From the “Banner URL” area just below your content click the “Upload Banner” radio button.
  2. Next browse to your image saved on your drive.
  3. In the content area you type %IMAGE% wherever you want your image to appear.

The video made it seem confusing because Guru Bob needed to zoom in so we could see exactly what he was doing and typing.

That’s it!  Day 6 is in the books.  If you want to visit my little site go to Dog Adoptions and find out all you need to know about adopting a dog from a rescue or shelter.
