About
And why do we fall, Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.
—Thomas Wayne, Batman Begins
Not all of our goals will be met with accomplishment. Hopefully we learn from our failures to help us soar to even greater heights.
About This Blog
Back in 2008 we started Ed Dale’s journey through the Thirty Day Challenge. We did our best to document our progress through this website, but unfortunately, everything came skidding to a halt when I went to Alaska for two weeks. I got all the way to Day 12 documenting each step of the challenge here on the Thirty Day Goal. This blog has lied dormant ever since August 2008…
January 2010 marked the triumphant return of the Thirty Day Goal which was originally inspired by one of our fellow bloggers , Raymond over at the Law of Attraction.
Genesis of the Thirty Day Goal
Way back in January of 2008 we came across Raymond’s post on How To Form A Habit. A few months later May of 2008 we purchased the domain name ThirtyDayGoal.com. So what was Raymond’s post all about and what are we doing here at the Thirty Day Goal? Well, his post was all about how to develop a new habit and it’s importance. Here’s the line from his post that touched me and got me thinking:
If you want to develop a new habit, do it consistently for the next 30 days. Forget about the amount. The habit is more important than the amount.
It was a very simple concept, but something I wanted to put into practice. I was so taken by this idea of 30 days to develop a new habit that I even spoke about it at our company meeting. A few simple thirty day goals could be:
- Write a blog post every day for thirty days
- Leave 5 comments on blogs within your niche every day for thirty days
- Browse the web every day for thirty days using StumbleUpon
- Socially bookmark your favorite articles and sites using Delicious every day for thirty days
- Update your Facebook fan page every day for thirty days
- Go to the gym every day for thirty days
- Eat a salad for lunch every day for thirty days
- Drink 8 glasses of water every day for thirty days
- Play tennis every day for thirty days
- Run 3 miles every day for thirty days
So, what exactly is the Thirty Day Goal all about? Well at the beginning of each month I’m going to set a goal and try to attain that goal over the next thirty days…this blog is my documentation of those thirty days. The plan is to focus mainly on the realm of productivity and internet marketing. The majority of my Thirty Day Goals will not require a daily task (as Raymond pointed out in How To Form A Habit). However, my minimum requirement in attempt to form new habits is to review my Thirty Day Goal on a daily basis to make sure I’m staying on track.
However, one month out of every year I will get a chance to apply a true “Thirty Day Goal“. Every August I will compete in the Thirty Day Challenge, document my results here on the TDC blog, and hopefully form a new habit along the way.
Testing The Thirty Day Goal
We got back into the swing of things in January 2010 with a very loft Thirty Day Goal. If you’d like to check out our January 2010 Thirty Day Goal the take a look at Goals For 2010. It was at that point that I realized I needed to focus my thirty day goal and not spread myself too thin.
In February 2010 I came to the decision that I would focus all of my energy and Thirty Day Goals at my Guide Dog Puppy In Training blog. This new found focus has helped make my goal setting and achievement much easier and hopefully we will see a big COMPLETE stamp rather than a FAIL next to February 2010’s Thirty Day Goal. This will also give you, the reader an in depth look at the inner workings of my Puppy In Training blog including monthly statistical analysis and the ups and downs of the blog as I try to accomplish my goals. Hopefully it will allow me to shed some light on the internet marketing tactics that work and the one’s that do not.
About Me
My name is Colby and I started blogging about my experiences as a Guide Dog Puppy Raiser back in 2007. Since then I’ve learned many of the in’s and out’s of blogging, social media, website analysis, traffic, and internet marketing. In the past I’ve made an attempt to apply most of my knowledge to the Puppy In Training blog. However, my approach has been less then calculated. Today, I’m trying to focus and organize my efforts of building a better blog using the concept of Thirty Day Goals while documenting my progress here in this blog.
I expect that my new focused, goal oriented approach will help me achieve stellar results including increased traffic numbers, revenue, and productivity. Follow the Thirty Day Goal and join me on a journey to building a better blog.
